I have a BT Diverse 6350 phone - pretty picture here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BT-Diverse-6350-Cordless-Answering/dp/B000EDTDII

Phone is about 2 months old and I am very happy with it .... but

When I switch the answer machine function on it does not always work. In
my absence the phone will pick up the call, but it does not play my
recorded message. Callers hear a click and thats it.

Switching the answer phone off and on sometimes seems to correct the
problem.

Just wondering if anybody out there has come across the problem and
whether it might be some form of firmware issue.

Kind regards

Alan

Funny coincidence: same is happening to me. Also bought BT Diverse 6350
about 2 months ago, and getting similar symptoms. Answering machine
plays OGM for a week or two, then OGM refuses to play (it seems to be
the same whether you record your own OGM or whether you use the default
OGM). The phone picks up, then all the caller hears is a click. Not
got to the bottom of it yet. I find that pulling the power chord out,
leaving it for a few (approx 30) secs, and plugging it back in seems to
clear the problem, but it is annoying. BTW, I assume you are referring
to the answering machine function in the corded unit/base station, not
the cordless unit.

Not much of a solution, but at least you know its not just you.

Will post if I find anything out.

Allan

Yes exactly the same problem - happening on the base unit.

I bought mine via Amazon.co.uk - if by chance you bought it from someone
who provides support would be interested to hear what they suggest.

Bit of a coincidence that we both have the same name - I wonder if this
is the cause :-)

Bought mine from http://www.federalcommunications.com/
When I rang the support line mentioned in the manual (think its vtech,
at least the email address is vtecheurope.com), after a few preliminary
questions and suggestions, the woman I spoke to seemed to suggest that
if I couldnt resolve it to ring back for a returns number and send it
back. Havent gone down this avenue yet.

Only response from BT help people (VTech Europe) is a recommendation to
reset the phone as below

RESET FOR DIVERSE 6350

PRESS MENU ONCE

then type in

*0#0*0#
(STAR,0,HASH,0,STAR,0,HASH)
PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN

PRESS BACK AND THEN MENU

DISPLAY WILL SHOW SUPPORT
PRESS OK

SCROLL DOWN TO RESET
PRESS OK

THE DISPLAY WILL SHOW RESET BS TOTAL ?
PRESS YES

Resetting to factory settings will erase all entered details from the
phone.

If this fails see relevant exchange procedure.

Regards

Alan
