If I have 4 incoming BT lines all with the same phone number, and I want
to change them to 2 with a different number.
If I call BT and get them to split it into 2 services (2 lines on one
number then 2 lines on another), will I save 2 lots of installation fees
when compared to cancelling all 4 lines then getting 2 back with a new
number? (If that all makes any sense).

All lines are normal Analogue PSTN lines.

Surely, if theyve all got the same phone number, that means theyre
extensions? If thats the case, then its Ł74.99 to get a new exchange
line in, and then Ł45ish to do an extension shift, IIRC.

If theres been a second line previously, then its free reconnection
and just the price for the shift.

Make sure to get the shift done at the same time as the engineer
call-out to get the second line active, though, or theyll bang on an
extra Ł60 or so for engineer call-out fees...

Youve not heard of a multi-line group - can be arranged so if line 1
is busy, line 2 rings, then line 3, then line 4... or round-robin
where they will ring, in sequence, so position 1 doesnt take 50% of
calls, only the regular 25%, assuming all 4 have staff available, and
that the call durations are reasonably similar.

Someone else pointed out the price has gone up from 74.99 to 99.99
(and assuming these lines are for business, then likely to be +VAT)

Thats what Im trying to avoid paying. They arent extensions, they are
a multi-line group.

What is the difference between a multi-line group and auxilary working?
(which I have) seems to be the same as the the above (but not round robin)

Theres two different things here, and which you have will surely
affect the cost of change. There is multi-group as described where
there are several lines all on one number; then there is hunt group.
AIUI a hunt group is a number that, when dialled, looks across several
lines all of which have their own numbers. If you have a hunt group
then I would have thought the cost would be less as it is just an
exchange reprog exercise?
