Occasionally we miss a call and dont recognise the number retrieved on BT
1471. Is there an alternative to ringing them back to find out who called?
Ive scoured google - most sites will find a number based on name or
address, but dont offer the reverse service.

Just consider it a wrong number and forget it. If they really want you they
will likely ring back, finding you in or leaving a message. The old saying
When you ring a wrong number, why is it never engaged ? is proven :-)

An answering machine or 1571? The caller will leave a message if its
important.

Well, my aunt, who is not that clever was ringing a wrong number, dont know how

it happened but she ended up having her own number on the paper, not the
plumbers, so it was always engaged! She was phoning herself :P

Good job she didnt have BT answer or she would have been leaving a message
for herself (and paying for the privilege)

If its a business number then a simple Google search for the number will
often produce it from websites of various trade directories.

Reverse number lookup based on telephone directory data is not permitted in
the UK.
