I presume you mean the distance between you and your telephone
exchange - the number is/was 17070 - however, BT have disabled this
feature from this number and so it no longer reports the distance..

I take it you are aware of BTs online Track a Fault service at
http://www.btwebworld.com/athome/repair/fpr/

It could be that the fault is fixed but they havent updated the fault
record yet..

We actually tend to measure faults - not guess them. The problem tends to be
customers with no idea who think they know something who see a pole and a
piece of wire and think that is their line and the only place a fault can
develop when in actual fact there is probably another couple of miles of
cable going back to the exchange too and as this is running largely
underground in water filled boxes. Still your guess may prove correct yet
ehh.....

You cant even get a guess measurement from 17070 now as they removed
that facility recently.

Just let the engineer do his job & if he asks tell him if not he
should have the equipment to measure & locate the fault it...

Sounds like that i hit a nerve here. Just answer me one question. How
many BT engineers take it to find a fault? Answer: Too many . So far i
had 3 this week and another visit is in the pipeline. Mabye it is time
that BT is spending more time on maintenance than on TV ads.
TIA

fault?

One if the customer is not an arsehole - if the customer is a dick however
we are inclined to not bother. Does that hit a nerve?

No. But it must have hit yours. Looks like your a BT Engineers who
knows it all. We ,the customers, pay you, BT, a lot of money. Dont
forget that. I dont know how you approach finding a fault. Dont you
have log where you write down you findings so the next BT engineer
knows what was done or not done before he trying to find a fault.
Can.t be that hard.
Take that.
See Ya
