I dont think I can stand it anymore.
A buddy across town (Cambridge) has a similar set-up and EXACTLY the
same problems - so it aint me !

Set-up:
VirginMedia line (also have VM BB and TV).
VM calls are fine (but very expensive)
One-Tel calls (via 0800 access) are fine (but only a bit less
expensive). I use One-Tel for work to get a separate bill.
1899 calls (via 0800 access) are crap (but very cheap).

1899 problems:
1. By far the most serious. Calls drop out. Maybe after 10 seconds,
maybe after 2 minutes, maybe not at all. Problems about 25% of the
time. You suddenly realise you talking to yourself - no obvious clicks
or anything.
2. Crap quality - Delays, poor audio which maybe one-directional.

I have reported this to 1899 and received an automated reply.
No follow up, or call-back. No improvement, no credits on my bill.
Zero customer service.

As 18866 and 18185 are the same company, I expect they would be same.

If I dont get a quick solution to 1899 issues, Im thinking of taking
VM 24/7 geographic for Ł8 per month. VMs 200 mins of international,
geographic, 0870, mobile, etc at Ł9 does not seem like a great deal
for me.
Skype at 1.5p per min looks interesting, but not convenient unless Im
sat at my PC.

Anybody from 1899 reading this NG who would like to comment ?
Do other 1899 users have the same issues ?

TIA.

Fred

Interesting? extortionate I call it.

There is more to VoIP than Skype. SMSListo.com is my favorite
at the moment. (Also a Finarea/Betamax co. Sorry)
Check out their rates particularly to UK mobiles.
You need an ATA, not a computer

That is why I left VM. I got a BT line installed under their Ł29.99
installation fee deal. Now can choose many companies for calls.

You could opt to get 10,000 minutes of inclusive 01/02 calls on Skype for
Ł2.24 a month though or inclusive European calls in those 10,000 minutes for
a bit more. Admittedly, Skype overcharges by an arm and a leg for most
non-European International calls though and you could always opt for one of
the Betamax clones for cheaper 01/02 calls but be at the mercy of their
varying Fair Use policies.
