Hi,

I took the risk of buying a Siemens SX353 ISDN phone from Germany in the
hope it would work on ISDN2e, but it seems not - and there was me
thinking the e in ISDN2e was for a European standard!? Ages ago I
bought a Euracom P4 ISDN phone and that *did* work!

Are the UK/German ISDN standards totally incompatible. I have spoken to
Siemens and they think it wont work, but you are all very clever round
here so I thought Id ask before I go to plan B!

Thanks

The most likely reason for it not working is BTs Loose Interpretation of
English and Standards (or LIES for short).

ISDN is supposed to be integrated, but BT doesnt integrate the services and
charges for them a la carte (e.g. CLIPS, COLP etc.).

On BT [business] Highway and possibly other ISDN products there is no S-bus
power (also non standard (BT argued it was optional)) so unpowered phones
etc. wont work. This meant my Swedish Ericsion ISDN phone would not work
without a power adapter, which Siemens very kindly provided FoC. In fact
the power went into one port on the Highway box and came out of the other,
so one adapter powered all my ISDN devices.

Other telcos vary. Some provide all the facilities, but very little
power - or non if on fibre, others just resell BT.

Is the line Point-to-Point or Point-to-Multipoint? ICBW, but I think this
has a bearing on what type of device you can connect to the line [ie
terminals or PBXes].

If you currently have a block DDIs, its set to point-to-point

The SP should be able to tell you.

It certainly requires a change order to be raised. Not sure of the
standard lead time.

Looks like things have changed in the 10 years since I was involved.
If you knew the right number to call, you could get parameters changed
almost instantly, PP/PMP, CLIP, MSM significant digits, etc etc
DASS2 circuits would park themselves if you as much as looked
at them IIRC, you needed a means of getting them reset PDQ

There used to be an 0800 number, but last time I
called, it re-directed me to a web-site.
