Well, not deaf exactly, obviously...but very hard-of-hearing, so ideally
needing a cordless with adjustable volumes everywhere - ideally ring tones
both on base station & handset, & earpiece as well. Doesnt necessarily have
to be either DECT or brand new - not too pricey, ideally. Any ideas? Many
thanks for any suggestions.

Many cordless phones - especially the dearer DECT ones - will
have adjustable volume on base and handset ringer, plus speech.
I know the BT Diverse does.

BT Freestyle 60 has an inductive coupler for hearing-aid use, but
no volume control (except for ringer low/high/off). You can
always add an external loud ringer. Its also fairly cheap,
under Ł30.

Geemarc Clearsound 15 has incoming speech amplification, loud
ringer and a strobe ring indicator, plus an external shaker for
call alerting (well they couldnt call it a vibrator, could
they?) It may exceed your requirements (and budget - its a
little under Ł70), but its the best-specified cordless Ive seen
for the hard-of-hearing.

You may have to buy via the web - its not likely many retail
outlets would stock this.

Neither of these are DECT. Both have answer machine versions.
The Geemarc Clearsound range has a number of other products you
may find useful - all shown on the same site under the Special
Needs link.
