According to Watchdog, Talktalk have not been honouring their
customers requests to be ex-directory, and lots have found
themselves in the new phonebooks and searchable in the directory
enquiry services.

I opted not to be ex-directory, but they mis-spelled my surname so
effectively I am! The first I knew about it was when someone said a few
months later when the next directory came out Oh, I see youve gone
ex-directory. On closer inspection, I discovered theyd missed out the
second letter of my surname so it was sorted into a different part of the
listing.

For several months I did battle with TalkTalk and BT: TalkTalk swore blind
that they had no control over what went into other phone companies
directories and BT said that other companies *were* responsible and that
because I was no longer a BT customer, they couldnt correct their printed
or on-line directory. Both sides were equally adamant - and I was caught in
the middle. Despite writing to TalkTalk by recorded delivery I never had a
reply and the problem still exists several years later - I cant be bothered
with the hassle any more of speaking to TalkTalk morons.

BT were correct.

TalkTalk have the ability to get the directory entry amended. BT Retail
can only have their own customers details amended (as can TalkTalk)

Do TalkTalk make cash for adding people to the phonebook?
That would explain why they just pass deatils along.

Yeah, there had been quite a few people over the months reporting on MSE
forum this was happening to them.
