18866 is telling us it failed to collect a direct debit (for
Ł1.55). Our bank account details havent changed, and our
account has more than that in it! Other DDs are going
through fine. Could be that Connect Telecom UK havent
collected anything for months with the 18866 originator
reference, and the DD authority has automatically lapsed.

Meanwhile, our 18185 log-in page also says direct debit has
failed. But last 18185 invoice, in March, was collected
normally, itemised calls to be invoiced are showing
correctly, and next invoice wont normally be generated
until May.

Anyone else experiencing this sort of thing?

Really!. Then they havent told me either. Im still getting the
normal e-mailed invoice notifications from them and have had DD
payments taken on the 4th (18866) and 8th (18185) of April.

You have fallen into the dormancy period trap. When the DD is set up and no
dormancy period is specified, by default a dormancy period of 13 months is
applied. So, if no DD taken for 13 months the DD automatically expires. Some
companies are aware of this and set up a longer dormancy period. Most
companies are not aware of this. You shouldnt try to explain this to them
unless you like bashing your head against a brick wall.

Yes, thanks, I suspected something like that for 18866. But
it doesnt explain why on logging in to 18185, who took a
payment completely normally in March 2008, and are due to
take another in May 2008 if they follow their normal rhythm,
I get a screen saying that a direct debit has failed, and
please will I set up a new payment method.
