For nearly two weeks Ive had several calls a day from 00923088460952.
Sometimes the phone will ring just once, sometimes itll ring until
answered, at which point they clear down.

Ive called the number back - it just gets through to an Indian
gentleman.

Is this an international premium rate scam?

Im with a VOIP operator (Gradwell) so I suspect I dont have the same
filtering available to BT customers.

Unwise, but relatively harmless, if a bit expensive in this case.

The number is a mobile in Pakistan.

No, but calls to Pakistan mobiles wont be cheap.

You still have the same rights to use TPS, but this would have limited
effect in your case, whether with Gradwell or BT (foreign number). With BT
you get Choose to Refuse if you pay them, but with voip your ata could
possibly do the business for you for free, and much more flexibly. My
Fritz!Box does call blocking OK, for example.

Or Voxalot can act as a proxy ATA for $30 p.a. and block certain CLIP
strings amongst other things.

I have Asterisk set up here and with a quick bit of SQL to put something
into a database, an offending number can be auto-answered with a hello
(to trip their call centre machine), a pause and then one of the Asterisk
pre-recorded sounds. I think at the moment it says all our phones have been
eaten by weasels. Then it hangs up.

How stupid are you? People like you keep the scams alive and end up paying
out loads.
IGNORE the calls.

You can choose to refuse by not answering the phone to people you dont
recognise the number of.
Very simple to do. Get one with a caller ID display, which most have - then
learn to use it.

Hes *advising* him not to call them, not *telling* him. If you want to
call expensive numbers go right ahead, but people are entitled to express
their opinions of you if you do.
