I recently changed one line to Pipex Mini broadband plus their Anytime
phone.

As I recall, 18866 still worked after that change, though I no longer
had much reason to use it.

Then later I signed up for 18185 (?same company as 18866? Announcements
sound very similar to each other and to Telediscounts).

Now I get loud crackling on the line as soon as the rate announcement
(for either 18185 OR 18866) is heard, and the crackling continues.

When I say crackling, it really sounds more like some sort of signal,
not quite a dial tone but rhythmic in nature.

Stranger still, the same 18866 / 18185 crackling now occurs on the
other non-Pipex line, on a different exchange some miles away
(in the same city but almost certainly located in a different
building), a number which I had also listed with 18185.

Dialling 1280 beforehand doesnt seem to make any difference.

18185s 808 number works normally but is more expensive.

If I try 18866s 808 number it seems to always report that the number
Im trying to call is busy, even though simple 18866 works albeit with
crackling.

Whose equipment is causing this? I.e. to whom do I complain? Other than
filing a comment with Ofcom, which Ive done.
