We need to provide service to Building 2 - c. 1km away, same BT
exchange.

Direct line of sight is compromised.

First thoughts are of BT analogue baseband p/w plus ethernet extenders
eg Patton 2172s to provide LAN (c.50Mb at 1km).

Has anyone played with these or similar. Any good or bad news?

C. 20 telephone extns to Building 2 - is there a simple cheap reliable
TDM over IP product that would drop off extns from the traditional
PABX in Building 1?

Regards

Jonathan

How compromised - and whats the budget... There are non line of sight
systems avalable, but theyre not cheap ...

These are Motorola Canopy units Im thinking of - I worked from them
briefly when they were called Orthogon & got bought out ...

I think there are frewquency limitations in the UK - making 2Mb/sec
the fastest that you are allowed to use ... I could be wrong though,
its been a while since I looked.

Then theres the issue of getting the lines from BT ... EPS8 and EPS9
are what they used to be called, but its been many years since I last
used one!

Have you actually looked at a BT Lan Extension? LES10 ... Ethernet
socket at each site and just plug it into your switches/routers...
Although probably not the cheapest solution, it might be the most
reliable...

The last resort option if moneys really tight is a VPN over ADSL (or
SDSL if you can get it at your exchange), but do get good routers if
going down this route. Upgrade your ADSL to a business-class with
830Kb/sec upload at both ends though, and get both from the same ISP to
minimise external networking to affect speed, etc.

You might even want to consider a dedicated ADSL line just for the VPN,
depending on speed, data and expectations...

TDM to IP ... Er, thats VoIP ;-)

And there are many solutions there..

But check your bandwdith requirements - 20 calls, if all in-use at the
same time using a g711 codec will need the best part of 2Mb/sec of
bandwidth, if all were ever in-use at once...

How about upgrading your entire phone system - VoIP PBX at each end -
the one in building 1 connects to your existing ISDN, etc. lines, the
one in building 2 uses VoIP to communicate with the main one...

Failing that if your PBX has a trunking facility, you could dedicate
(eg) 4 lines out of it, put these into an analogue temrinal adapter (or
2), then peer that to a separate VoIP PBX at the far-end, but a lot is
going to depends on the capbilities of the existing PBX...

Good luck!

Gordon

Here is a solution for TDM over IP - and quite a cheap one:
http://www.ad-net.com.tw/index.php?id&

you can see they have versions like 2E1, 4E1 and 8E1
