Morning all

She who must be obeyed has got wind of the pending BT prices rises from
April (we are on option 1)and she is not happy at the thought of having
to pay 90p an hour for a call that was previously 4.5p (?)

In an attempt to mollify her I rashly undertook to investigate whether
we might pre-empt BTs move by moving the call element of our call to
another provider.

I dont wish to move away from BT (ie continue to pay line rental to them
- along with the occassional call to ensure my BT Privacy at home
remains free).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable, competitive CPS
provider who have a contact point in the UK that could be used with BT.

Note that I dont want any funny boxes or pre-diallers on the line just
CPS (Carrier Pre-Select)

Cheers

A

As you are happy to stay with BT, AFAIK:

To avoid the evening call charges entirely, sign up for 12 months.

To avoid the increase in line rental, sign up for paper-free billing

To avoid the BT increase in unit call costs during the day, use 18185

terms & conditions apply ;-}

Am I reading this correctly - for UK fixed Land line calls the only
charge is a call setup fee of 5p?

Yep, and talk for as long as you want for that 5p.
Someone made a call from my phone to a land line number once.
They went through BT instead of 18185... 38 mins and it cost Ł1.13,
instead of the 5p it wud have cost if it went through 18185.

Well that seems to be the answer then - just need to setup via DDR to
ensure that if we want to cancel at some future date it stays cancelled
(unlike credit card continuing payment authorities)

Many thanks to all who contributed.

If you dont want to sign up to BT for the 12 months just use 18185
for evening calls. Also look at 1899. If SWMBO cant remember to
dial the prefix, just get an Orchisd V4 dialler and program it to
select the service you want at the appropriate time of day.

You can save money on 0870, 0845 and mobile calls with the
appropriate routing at different times of the day. Orchid dialler
will handle those as well.
