At the moment Ive got BT Answer and itl send a text to my mobile to
alert me when a message is left for me.

Im thinking of having a Virgin landline phone line and their
voicemail wont do this so I need an answering machine (either
standalone or built into a cordless phone) that will do this or, more
likely, will just ring my mobile when a message comes in so that I can
then listen to it or ring in later to listen.

Any ideas please for models that will do this?

Thanks

Yes. Do not switch to Virgin for phone. Theyre one of the most
expensive providers in the UK for calls, if not the most expensive.

For that matter, turn off BT answer & simply divert calls to your
mobile.

Sorry, no.

Agreed. Also, if anything goes wrong, remember that youre dealing
with a cable TV and broadband supplier that chucks in a phone
service; in list of corporate priorities, resolving problems with
the phone service is probably a few notches down the list.

This facility (notification) is usually offered on
voice mail systems but I dont know of any
answer-machine that will do it. It would be simpler
just to forward the line to your mobile.

Scrub that. A reply in another current thread
mentions the Tiptel 540, which apparently does just
what you want.

At nearly Ł130, you might still be better just diverting.

I think that we need to have the OPs actual needs more closely
specified. I have a Retell 540 which is indeed a good machine and I
have various outgoing messages set up, not all of which use the
mailboxes.

When I DO use the mailboxes I set them so that they will NOT take
messages. I could set them to divert the call, but then Id have to pay
for the onward portion of the call. Instead I use the initial OGM to
direct callers to press 1, 2, 3 or 4 according to what capacity they
were calling me in, then use each of the mailboxes to direct them to
dial an appropriate number. That way I dont have to pay for the
redirected portion of the call. In those mailbox messages which offer
MY mobile number rather than directing the caller to phone an
alternative individual, callers are asked to phone 07879 XXXXXX and
leave a message on the voicemail there (my mobile). Works very nicely
for me and if one didnt have multiple telephone identities it would
work on the simplest of answering machines, as long as they could be set
to announcement only.
