Has anyone else received this?

Dear Business Customer,
We are automatically upgrading your line, at no extra cost, so you
never miss a call wherever you are, etc etc etc

Its a free call divert service which normally costs Ł6 per
quarter, 12 month minimum contract.
But I do not trust BT with anything free.
It says in the T&C, printed in grey on the reverse of the letter 12
month contract .... early termination charges will apply if you
terminate the contract within any minimum period

If its a FREE contract, how is it that one would pay termination
charges upon cancelling it before the 12 months are up?
As in many BT letters, there are quite a few *, **, !, inserted.

Ill phone on Monday to cancel this unsolicited free upgrade

Every business customer with a single line capable of supporting call
divert is getting the letter, and will automatically start a new 12 month
contract from 20th February 2008 unless they opt out of the free upgrade.
Worse, the new contract rolls over for 12 months at a time, not one month
as currently. So everyone has just three weeks to opt out.

It all sounds like a marketing ploy to try and stop migration to other
telephone operators.

There is no way that such a ploy would be enforceable.

As sure as you are a top poster

If you had read the whole of Anguss post -but top posters dont read
posts- you would have noticed the link he gave.

I have BT letter in front of me.
I guess hundreds of thousands people got it and threw it the bin
unread.
Looks like inertia selling to me.

If it stops any number of people leaving them because they are simply
told they are in contract it has had the desired effect; whether or
not its enforcable in a court.

Powergen had a similar ploy on business electricity

First one year - objected - ignored.
Then three years and quadrupled standing charges. Only after furious
protest did they let go.
